In 2020 Rikke published an academic article in the International Journal of Play. The article is about how to develop a culture of play; how to get practically started in school; and how educators across countries and continents can share great teaching ideas. The article also touches themes such as potential consequences of placing social agents in human interaction space versus the value of learning transparent coding in creative and imaginative ways with the purpose of developing children’s agency and their democratic voice.

- The primary pivotal point and purpose with my talks is to spread common conscious reflection and educational value creation around  robottechnology, robot behaviour, social- and ethical challenges when interacting with- and controlling robot technology. How can this be used in a reflective way in school and education - to not only promote a widespread attitude on how we can be even more competent on qualifying knowledge about the subject, but as well to use robots function as transformers of imagination to action (Paaskesen & Nørgård 2016).

Second Exploration in Kenya, 2018

In our second exploration to Kenya with PlayFutures, 2018, we continued activities with Bee-Bot and developing skills on code literacy such as direction, input, output, sequence, algorithm and bug. This we combined with practising tinkering activities and storytelling; children constructing their own design from a Village and a Playpark. We also practised roleplay and gamebased activities outdoors for the children to play respectively the computer, the programmer and the navigator/helper.

We exchanged and followed-up with the local teachers at Blossoming Cherries Learning Center on how they have been implementing play in their daily activities within the last year.

We gave talks and we had exchange with a big group of teachers at The Bation Hall in Embu, Kenya.

Tinkering, Design and Coding with Bee-Bot, Kenya 2018

Children tinker, design and tell stories, making use of very basic recycled materials in combination with technology. This approach develops and nurses the children’s imagination and sense of participation.

Code Literacy with Bee-Bot, Kenya 2018

See how basic coding literacy can be made a daily part of the curriculum in both math, language and science lessons.

First Exploration in Kenya, 2017

Pilot-project in Kenya with preschoolers (aged 3-6 years old) and robotics, developing play-based strategies for teachers in the classroom (2017/18).

Pilot-project in Kenya with preschoolers (aged 3-6 years old) and robotics, developing play-based strategies for teachers in the classroom (2017/18).

On our first exploration in Kenya with PlayFutures the children have created CupBots from recycling materials, mixed materials, small motors, wires and batteries as an introduction to engineering and we have been working with Bee-Bot as an introduction to the children's first hands-on technology in the classroom. The mission is to develop play-based strategies, and one must say that the kids were very excited, joyful and happy to play around with both CupBots and Bee-Bot. The teachers were inspired to implement playful activities in teaching when learning about numeracy and literacy.

Exploratory play & active engagement

The students were engaged in play, active engagement, joyful moments, absorbed in exploring and having fun with their selfmade CupBots. Learning about behaviour and speed of the CupBot.

& Nørgård, R.T. i PDF:

Oplæg til Læringsdag i Horsens Kommune: "Eksperimenterende læringsdesign for demokratisk dannelse" (aug. 2017).

Klank Efterskole fik sit første obligatoriske kursus for 9. klasser i faget RoboTech under elevernes Kulturuge i 2017.
